Working in Linux world, it’s hard not to think about the great components and tools while you works with Unix system. It could be ZFS of Solarism or DTrace of BSD. When it comes to tuning the production system, DTrace is definitely a good tool for that. Linux world doesn’t have a tool with a parallel stability and programmably customizable. However, with the momentum of the Linux community, the landscape is gradually changing. Brendan Gregg has a few marvelous slides that sums up the tracing tools in Linux world, as of 2015.
